iPod goodness

Published by Andrew under geeking

My iPod disappeared recently.

I hadn’t been using it lately. (perish the thought! Not listening to one’s iPod?) Yeah, I know. But I have a very short drive to work, and when I’m at work, I find it more of a distraction than a help (unless I’m trying to drown out the idiots who think the NOC is a great place to have loud conversations). So it sat in my laptop bag for 3 or 4 weeks untouched.

Or so I thought.

When I decided I wanted to listen to some tunes, I reached to dig it out of the bag. Not there. I figured it probably fell out of the bag in the trunk of my car, where I carry the bag (no power door locks == easier to put things in the trunk than try to unlock and open the rear door of the car). When I got out of work that night I searched the trunk thoroughly. No dice. Couldn’t find it at home. Couldn’t find it at my girl’s place. I started to suspect bad things.

I usually leave the laptop, with bag, at work during the week. My coworkers aren’t exactly going to steal it. I didn’t think about anything else in the bag…

So I began to fear the worst about where my iPod went. I didn’t want to believe one of my coworkers would actually help an iPod walk off. But 2 weeks of searching and it never turned up. It occurred to me this weekend that it was possible I had tossed it in the back seat at some point. I usually set it on the passenger seat when it’s in the car on the FM transmitter, and I would easily have just tossed it back there to clear the seat when my girl gets in. So I looked under the seats. Nope. Glove box… ah-ha! There it is. Thank God. Bad enough I killed my expensive PDA (no more expensive PDAs for me. I’ll stick with basic models from now on.)

I hated the idea that one of my coworkers would do such a thing. We’re all geeks. We have too much respect for other people’s geeky property. I suppose it should have occurred to me that anyone who reaches into my laptop bag to steal the iPod is also going to take the USB connector cable that was there the whole time.
