Upgrading to WP 2.5

Published by Andrew under Word Press, blogging, livejournal

About to update the blog to WP 2.5. It should be smooth but if things break, who knows how long I’ll be offline.
Not that I’ve been posting much lately…

<edit>Update mostly successful. The LJ crosspost plugin won’t reactivate, saying it caused a fatal error. Not very informative. I’ll have to figure that one out I guess.</edit>

Kblogger not working? Or WP?

Published by Andrew under Twitter, Word Press, blogging, geeking

Weird. Posts made with kblogger never show up in my blog. They’re “published”, they get a post ID, I can see them in the database and all fields are the same as posts that do show up (well, with the exception of things I expect to be different. Date. Title. GID, etc.) I even see my to “test” posts made it to twitter, but they don’t show up in the blog. Not even in the management interface where I should see ALL posts, published, draft or otherwise.

OK, WP is working. I can post just fine from the web interface.

Theme still changing on me

Published by Andrew under Word Press, blogging, tweet

I thought the problem with the theme randomly resetting to the wordpress default was solved with the installation of “I Love Music” 1.1, but I logged in today and it was again using the default theme.
I really wish it I could figure out what is causing this.

WTF???

Published by Andrew under Word Press, blogging, geeking, spam

Somehow, someone managed to alter my post about finding an Indian cooking vlog on Youtube into a spam.
Looks like I’m going to have to track down an exploit in WordPress. I suspect one of my plugins. For the time being I’ve disabled one the one my gut tells me caused this.

“Asides” not working right

Published by Andrew under Word Press, asides

I’m trying to set up “aside” notes in my WP blog.
The theme I’m using, “I Love Music“, has support for it built in. I defined my category (the oh-so imaginatively named “asides”), configured the theme to use that cat for the sidebar and all went well.
Only when I view the page, it’s showing the “Subhuman Cretins” post. Twice. Looks like it’s getting confused.

Something odd with WP lately

Published by Andrew under Word Press, blogging

Every time I post a blog entry, WordPress resets the theme to the default.
Very weird.

[Edit: OK, it's not posting that's doing it. Not sure what is though.]

Twitter plugin not at fault

Published by Andrew under Word Press, blogging

Looks like all the problems with my WP blog cross posting between Twitter and LJ were NOT the fault of Twitter or the twitter plugin.

As soon as I deactivated the INAP plugin (see “Test Post“), not only did the blank page after Publish problem go away, but now the full text of my tweets are correctly crossposted to LJ.

Test post

Published by Andrew under Word Press, blogging, geeking

Just testing if my “fix” to No Self Pings worked.

Edit: OK, I don’t get the blank page after clicking “save” or “publish” now. Looking good.

If it’s really fixed, the following link should NOT show up as a “ping” to my own blog: Previous No Self Ping post.

Nope. Still completely borked. It’s not pinging itself, but it’s giving me the blank page again. I’m just disabling the plugin for now.

Edit: Aaand with the plugin disabled, it’s still borked. But I’m also getting an error message in the log regarding the INAP plugin. Maybe that’s the culprit. I’m disabling that now.

Edit: Yup. Looks like INAP was the culprit.

Blank page after post or save

Published by Andrew under Word Press, blogging, geeking

Looks like it’s actually the “No Self Pings” plugin that’s causing post.php to return a blank page.
